Captains' guide
GuideEverything a captain needs for a match night, from registering players to sending the result.
Adopted Monday 19 October 2026.
Section 1Before the season
Give the Secretary the names of your players so they can be registered. For a new player, suggest a starting handicap; the committee reviews and approves it. Only registered players can play.
Make sure you have the league scorecard password. Ask the Secretary if you don't.
Check your fixtures on the website.
Section 2On the night
Matches start at 7.30pm, or 7.00pm at clubs with one table.
The visiting captain nominates the first player.
A match is four singles, then two doubles. One point for each frame won.
If the other team is more than 15 minutes late you may claim a frame, and a second frame after 30 minutes.
Check each player's handicap on the website if you're not sure. The start in each frame is the difference between the two handicaps, up to 45 points.
Section 3Sending the scorecard
- 1
On your phone, open the league website and tap Scorecard.
- 2
Type the league password (only needed the first time on each phone).
- 3
Choose your match. It is usually picked for you.
- 4
For each frame, pick the players from the list and type both scores. For the doubles, pick both partners.
- 5
Add any breaks, then check the card and tap Send.
- 6
The result goes straight onto the website, and the table and handicaps update. You can then share the result to the WhatsApp group with one tap.
The home captain sends the card, or asks a team-mate to.
If you spot a mistake after sending, tell the Secretary, who will correct it.
Section 4If a match has to move
League matches are played on the date in the fixture list unless the committee has had a week's notice, or in exceptional circumstances. Speak to the Secretary as early as you can.
Cup matches can be moved if both captains agree. Tell the League officers the new date. A cup match not played before the next round is forfeited by the side that asked to move it.
Section 5New players and transfers
Register new players with the Secretary before they play, with your suggested starting handicap for the committee to approve. They can play once they're registered and their handicap is approved.
No new registrations or transfers once only four league matches remain.
If in doubt, ask the secretary.
